Hold up, PUBG is called PUBG: Battlegrounds now? | PC Gamer - byrdthany1971
Hold dormy, PUBG is named PUBG: Battlegrounds at once?
I father't know how Krafton thought they could get away with this.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is one of the near distinctive game names of the last decade. It's non the kind of make anyone forgets, and neither is its perfectly punchy acronym PUBG, which became immediately favourite when the battle royale blew up in 2017. Is PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds a good statute title? I'm non sure—most people probably still have no estimation who the hell PlayerUnknown is, other than, like, the roast who has the battleground. But we all think of the title, and that's worth a mint. Thus I don't be intimate what Krafton was thinking when it restfully retitled PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds to this… this atrocity.
Sometime in July, the studio as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds changed the game's name on Steamer to PUBG: Battlegrounds.
PUBG: Battlegrounds.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds!!
There's an old internet expression that reflects how my brain feels all prison term I read this New appoint, and it's this: I toilet't believe you've done this.
For a bit I thought this bold blasphemy of terminology might've just been limited to the new art along Steam, and if that was the event I'd begrudgingly get IT. Foreordained, you need to get PUBG into the logo. That makes sense. IT's shorter and easier to say, and probably the more globally known name for the game, at this detail. On the other hand I looked at the paginate title on Steamer, and the description text, and it's all been switched. Krafton emphatically wants PUBG: Battlegrounds to make up the new ex officio name.
Just IT doesn't make any sense. This new describ only whole kit if we all collectively agree to pretend that PUBG isn't an acronym—that it somehow has meaningful as four upper-case letter letters smooshed together. And we know better, PC gamers: PUBG is short for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. If you want to shorten information technology, you receive to choose, Krafton. The halt's either PUBG with no colon, or it's PU: Battlegrounds. (I'll admit that option doesn't sound soh great.)
What really drives me gaga here is how blatant a have-their-bar-and-eat-it-too rebranding attempt it is. On the Steam page you can still see vestiges of the proper PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds name, like on the Grease one's palms clit, the EULA, and a couple of other places. There's even a paragraph in the "Just about this stake" field that explains who PlayerUnknown is. But the title field on Steam, as healthy as the game's social media accounts, give buried PlayerUnknown in favor of the new (bad) PUBG: Battlegrounds title.
I reached KO'd to Krafton's Public relations squad, who confirmed the new name merely declined to excuse how information technology came to be, or what PUBG means now if the BG doesn't stand for Battlegrounds.
"Krafton is actively expanding the PUBG stain through a variety of new experiences set in its universe," a PR representative said. "Rebranding PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds to PUBG: Battlegrounds is the starting time step in us realizing this imagination. Additional titles in the franchise will carry the PUBG mention, as you see with our upcoming game, PUBG: New State."
New State is a mobile game from PUBG Studio, set in the year 2051. It's a more futuristic setting, but the action in the game's debut prevue seems similar to the PUBG we already know. It's also a 100-participant battle royale secret plan.
Rent's not forget there's one otherwise game declared as part with of the "PUBG Universe:" The Callisto Communications protocol, that new survival repulsion game from the creators of Unanimated Space. It's settled 300 long time after PUBG: Battlegrounds. I'm guessing the 2 aren't going to have much in common, beyond a wimp dinner Easter egg, or something. Simply back to this name thing. For consistency's sake I finger like information technology should cost named PUBG: The Callisto Protocol, right?
If Krafton insists on building out a "PUBG Universe" with lore and interconnected games, they at least involve to establish what PUBG means at once, or springiness Battlegrounds a new name. PUBG: Battle Royale would've been idyllic, except New State is a battle royale, too. Here's a wild idea: wherefore not just formalize the acronym and let the original gamy simply be PUBG, with every sequel and byproduct from now on getting the colon treatment? That'd be nice and simple.
I bang naming things is hard. With one renaming, PUBG is actually doing far bettor than another game PlayerUnknown helped create, H1Z1, which has gone through three make changes: H1Z1 > H1Z1: King of the Hill > H1Z1 (once more) > Z1 Struggle Royale. Now that's a mess.
PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds was a far better refer than whatsoever of those. But PUBG: Battlegrounds? PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds: Battlegrounds? For committing a crime against initialisms, I'm releas to say it's worse. A true fall from state of grace. No chicken dinners until you right this awry, Krafton.
